Before earning a Tony nomination for her Broadway debut in the Color Purple,

before winning countless awards for her starring role in Netflix's Orange is the New Black,

she was just growing up in South Carolina,

competing in oratorical contests at her church and perfecting her public speaking.

Her talents took her here to New York City to Juilliard at just 17 years old.

If there is such a thing as having it, she's got it in spades.
