Summary

In this episode of CitizenCentral, animal products are up for discussion with two European citizens’ initiative organisers. They believe modern technologies offer solutions to what they consider old and unsustainable practices, and that have benefits for animals, people and planet. Filippo Borsellino, organiser of ‘End the Slaughter Age’ initiative, focuses on transferring EU subsidies from livestock farming to cell- and plant-based alternatives. Elise Fleury is the representative of ‘Fur Free Europe’ initiative, which aims to ban fur farms and farmed fur products from the European market.

1:36.2	In today's chapter, we will bring the second season of Citizen Central to an end,
1:41.1	but we will do it with a bang. We will kick off in Milan meeting
1:44.8	Filippo Borsellino, who with his ECI end the slaughter age, is asking the Commission
1:49.9	to defer European livestock agriculture subsidies to culture-alternatives in order to protect the
1:57.5	environment while providing the society with a healthy protein source without
2:02.6	harming animals.
2:03.6	Then we will head over to Brussels where we will meet Elise Fleurie, a campaigner for animal rights
2:09.6	who with her ECI, Fur Free Europe, is asking the Commission to ban fur farming and trading in the EU.
2:29.3	Open any IPCC report and it is clear that our diet, our animal sourced protein, is impacting the climate. Europe is a big meat producing region and Europeans are some of the heavier meat consumers in the world.
