This is CBSI in the World. I'm John Batch with Antonio Calabasano in Bucharest, Romania,

writing about Moldova and the threats to the neighbor Moldova by Moscow, threats that are

real and that are right now a constant concern in Kishno, the capital of Moldova. But the

capital of Romania, Bucharest, one year into the war, Bucharest has committed itself so

much so that there are American soldiers deployed at Constanza. There are airfields and there's

talk of naval basing in the Black Sea out of Romania. But one year in, how is the population

with what appears to be a long war where the President of the United States says that the

U.S. and NATO are committed as long as it takes and Moscow says a long war. Antonio,

I check on your population, I check on your economy. How is it? One year later.

Well, the economy is still stable, still going. We are expecting for the inflation to

plateau and eventually climb down considering the energy price has and the energy crisis kind

of calm down and we did not have the winter we expected. The population is very much supportive

of the West and supportive of NATO, but at the same time very anxious about what's going

on with Moldova. I think that with regards to the latest reports from the neighboring country,

I believe that the population has actually realized that it is dangerous not to be a member

of NATO. While that was said officially, it was explained by the experts, it's one thing

to be told. It is another thing to see what the threat is really like when you're not

a member of NATO. That is one key element to see this. I think this is going to shape

the way that we are going to deal with defense policy and economic policy from now on considering

that we have the NATO bases, we have the American bases here and even the talk about defending

the borders now is about the real threat of Russia coming very close to our borders.
