This is CBS. I on the world. I'm John Batchel with my colleague Malcolm Holine Conference of

President's major American Jewish organizations commenting on the regional hegements and the great

powers walking around carefully in the streets of Damascus, asking what's next. We begin with the United States.

In these last hours, we have a report that the President of the United States communicated to

the so-called rebel group, HTS or Jolani or both, that there must be no reigniting of ISIS in the region.

At the same time, we're told that

the U.S. military carried out airstrikes against ISIS, 75, I believe, air strikes, a great

burst of violence after months of watching ISIS in the northeastern part of Syria. So we'll stop there and say

the U.S. is ally against ISIS, the PKK. But my understanding, Malcolm, is that a deal of the

support that HDS has from Erdogan is about them removing the PKK from their refuge in Syria.

What is the U.S.'s position? What is its opportunity?

Adding that the president-elect said over the weekend in Paris at the Notre Dame rededication,

that it's none of our affair. We don't belong there. Well, we have so many players

that we have to sort out. The fighters that have been brought in, the role of the PKK, what happens

to the Druze community, to Christian, the other minorities, which have been the subject in the U.S.

has been pressuring on that issue. But the meantime, the U.S. has been stepping up its efforts

at ISIS locations.

I think they hit 100 strikes yesterday and are also looking and working together with Israel,

which have many common interests in the outcome of the conflict there.

So we can take each of the conflict there.

So we can take each of the individual elements of what the great power and minor power interests are, and they are generally in competition with one another.

So we shouldn't be doing the victory dances yet about what the outcome of this is.
