This is CBS Eye in the World. I'm John Bachelorette, David Maxwell, the Foundation for the

Defense of Democracies. Running about where we are with regard North Korea's threat to

the region to the planet. And David talks in his most recent FDPs about South Korea having

created the Directorate of Countering Nuclear and WMD. What is that mean, David? What are

they doing?

Well, they are really trying to reshape their military to use all their capabilities. And

of course they have their three pronged kill chain, the Korean Air and missile defense

system and the Korean retaliation and punishment system and combine their strategic weapons

of cyber long range missiles to really contribute to extended deterrence along with the United

States. So South Korea is enhancing their defensive capabilities in such a way to deter North

Korea and combining with the alliance exercises, the robust exercises that are taking place

that have been announced between now and the summer to include a large life fire exercise

that will take place in October on the anniversary of the military, the mutual defense treaty.

So South Korea is really stepping up its defensive capabilities on the peninsula and contributing
