This is CBSI in the world, I'm John Bachelor about the Asylum Seekers and the homeless shelters

and those in Manhattan and in the burrows seeking shelter.

The politics of this are important, vital.

The mayor who is now traveling in the Middle East, he's in Israel, taped for CBS this

morning, remarks, saying, I'm on the ground, I'm not detached from this, meaning the

crisis of migrants.

When we hear about one of our service providers not meeting our standards, we immediately

get in.

I walk through surprise visits to see the quality of service.

Once a week I'm looking at one of the locations to make sure we're reaching the standard.

The mayor is speaking about this spontaneous growth of shelters throughout the city.

The governor has spoken unhappily these last days about the challenge for New York City

and about how New York is helping, but don't look to us to do your work.

I'm paraphrasing because this is an ongoing conversation between Albany and City Hall.

Gwen, as I understand it right now, the politics of this turn around the guarantee shelter

of New York City.

What does that mean?

So New York City has been required by law and by consent decree to provide shelter to

anyone who seeks it going back decades in a lawsuit that was settled to legal aid society

and the coalition for the homeless were the parties for that lawsuit and a man, a homeless

person who has since passed away was the lead plaintiff among others.
