I'm John Bexch with my friend and colleague Dr. Space, David Livingston.

This is Hotel Mars episode and we're visiting with John Josie, a member of the National Space

Society as well as a senior associate at the Space Studies Institute. We're talking

about gravity, the thing we all take advantage of here on Earth.

We run in it, we balance with it, we grow our muscles with it. All of the creatures on Earth

are adapted to 1G gravity.

If we were a larger planet, there would be more gravity,

a smaller planet to be less gravity.

We'd adapt to it.

But we've had several billion years here, at least, to adapt.

The question is, can we adapt to the 1-6th gravity on the moon and the 1-third gravity on Mars?

And John, this is the fun part of the program where

David and I give you an unlimited budget. So what is it that you believe will

advance this question? Can we reproduce, can mammals reproduce under reduced gravity?

For example, one, two-third, I believe Mars is about one third, point 38.

What are you going to do with that money, John?

So as I said before, I would fund a low-Earth Orbit variable gravity research facility that would have dads and they would be tethered together.

And this can be done with what's called an air beam,

which is a very strong structure that has shirt sleeve environment on the inside so you can have

access to the different gravity levels.

And it would be like a spinning space station that would provide both moon and Mars gravity.

And we would run experiments on rodents first and it would have to include the entire reproduction cycle from
