G. Chang and we're joined by our colleague Mark Simon, Jimmy Lai's longtime deputy

and a director at the now closed Apple Daily. Jimmy Lai is on trial for essentially the rest

of his life. He's been persecuted these last years by the authorities because they're the Chinese

Communist Party. But what is to be done? Significant to me is that Jimmy Lai

is both a Hong Kong citizen and a British citizen. And we're told by the news, Ft.com, this morning,

that Sir Kier Starrmer, the new Prime Minister of Britain, is in Rio and spoke to Xi about Jimmy

Lai. Also, there is a remark in the Reuters reporting that the President of the United States elect,

Mr. Trump, is ready to address this matter.

I mentioned that one of the charges against Jimmy Lye is that he met with Michael Spence, the vice president

of the first Trump administration.

So, Mark, that's a lot of firepower, the British Parliament and the American president.

Is that sufficient to end this torture?

Yes, yes, that is significant.

That's a very, look, this is the thing that Xi Jinping and the rest of him we have to look at.
