I thought that Robert DeVall was a bad guy in true grit, the original.

He's on a horse sitting across from John Wayne.

I forgot until I showed the clip of him playing Boo Radley to Kill a Mockingbird.

Yeah, you're right.

I'd forgotten he was in that.

Yeah, that was like, I think he was one of his first movie roles, 1959, I believe. Something like that. My favorite story about Robert DeVall is that him and Gene Hackman and Dustin Hoffman were all broke actors living in New York City together. They were all buds. And think about that. They all became buds. I mean, they were just tight and they all became legends, not just working actors.

I mean, they all became legends.

Who was on that group?

Dustin Hoffman, Gene Hackman, and Robert DeVall.

They lived together?

Yeah, well, it was funny.

Gene Hackman was married at the time and a struggling

actor in New York City. Dustin Hoffman was sleeping on Gene Hackman's kitchen floor. Yeah.

And Gene Hackman, his wife said, okay, you know, you got to get taught out of here.

He said, got to get him out of here.

So he said, well, I know a guy of the floor above us, basically.

He lives by himself, and his name is Robert DeVall.

So, so, uh, so Dustin Albin moved up and lived with Robert DeVall.

And this, by the way, this was, they were all just no names and became legends. Now, they had to have a fourth buddy name, I don't know, Jim or something like that didn't do that. Right. There had to be a fourth guy that was in acting class with him. And he just, he just didn't do that. That guy is sick of hearing this story. He is really like, God damn it. He's drinking somewhere on a lawn chair bitching. Oh, he probably drank himself to death 20 years ago. Think about that. Your three best friends or your three guys you're in acting class with, you're thickest thieves. And they become not only working actors, but, you know, just living legends for that,

well, legends, not living anymore.

You think there was somebody in those same acting classes that saw those three guys and just
