Stu, we got a very important guest on the Audible today, a guy who spent three plus decades in the NFL, but also has a really, really important connection to the history of college football.

So let's go to the interview. Now we got a special guest. So I'll preface this by saying a few weeks ago we had Manny Diaz on and it gave us an opportunity to stretch beyond just the news of the day.

Since February is Black History Month, I thought it would be an ideal time to delve into a coach who I think may be the most underrated

important figure in the sports history. His name is Duffy Dordy and he is in the college

football Hall of Fame, but I'll be honest to, if it weren't for a chance meeting I had with

our guest today a few years ago, I'd really have no idea just how big an impact Duffy Doherty has had.

Our guest today is Jimmy Ray. He's a longtime NFL coach who back in 1966 became the first

join us. You're from Fayetteville, North Carolina. Tell us a little bit about what the

recruiting climate was like back then for top high school players in the South, and what was

Duffy Doherty's Underground Railroad? Well, it's a pleasure to be on your show, Bruce. Back in the

mid-60s, there wasn't any recruiting climate for black athletes in the South.

Basically, all of the schools within a 60-mile radius of where I live in the Atlantic Coast

Conference, all of those schools were segregated.
