Summary

Things are starting to get dark in the Lot as our coverage of King's novel continues. This week we discuss Chapter 4: Danny Glick and Others and Chapter 5: Ben (II).  We chat about Larry Crockett's Jahoobies obsession, the nature of evil, and just how much we both love Matt the Schoolteacher.

Discussion Question: What makes a house creepy and how do authors like King and Shirley Jackson use these elements to create a spooky house?

Next week we'll be reading and discussing Chapters 6 and 7!

Long days, pleasant nights, and welcome to Kingslingers, a doof media podcast journeying through Stephen King's Dark Tower series and beyond. I'm your host, Constant Reader Scott Daly, and yeah, I think we should just do it right here. And I'm your co-host, relative king newbie Matt Freeman. And do the podcast right here on the grass in the open?

0:38.5

Sure.

0:39.5

Well, why not?

0:41.9

But people can see.

As we discussed, Chapter 4, Danny Glick and others and chapter five Ben two Matt what did you think of this week's

1:01.3

reading um this is some great stuff um the uh the the Danny Glick and others part I think

1:09.2

was a real kind of tone shift real real kind of like velocity shift of the story.

1:15.1

I feel like things have really like the up until now, there's been kind of a feeling of of setting the table.

1:22.1

And I don't know if we're quite.

1:23.8

I wouldn't say we're out of the setting the table part of the story yet, but definitely there was like an escalation and acceleration feeling to things. And then getting back to Ben

1:33.8

was good. It was kind of neat to like pick up those threads again and real. And I guess I wasn't

1:40.5

sure whether Ben was going to be kind of de-emphasized as like the protagonist.

1:45.7

And then when getting back to Ben, I was like, okay, so like, no, we're just pick,

1:49.2

where Ben is still the protagonist.

1:50.7

We're basically going to be switching between Ben and like town intervals or interludes.

1:57.4

It's sort of how I'm seeing it at this point.

1:59.2

Sure.

1:59.5

Yeah.
