Tim is an award-winning author who loves writing outdoors and Mark is a next-gen pastor who’s spent years in the trenches with teens. Their new book, What to Say and How to Say It to Your Teen, is a practical guide to 30 tricky, real-life topics (screens, anxiety, work ethic, honesty, dating, porn, anger, and more) with the kind of language that keeps the relationship intact while still telling the truth. You’ll hear why so many talks go sideways, how to aim for connection instead of “winning,” and why the goal of every hard conversation is to “come back safe” with trust still standing and the door open for follow-up. it's brand new so uh what an exciting thing a really cool thing to do together as father and son. I love to start off here, Tim. You've written 25 books and you, this fits really well. You do a lot of your writing outdoors. I do. I'm glad that you found that. I is, if I can do it weather-wise, I do. I've got a portable writing desk, you know, that I made that I can set up so I can stand. I like to stand when I write. And so, you know, I'm anywhere from, there's a patch of woods right by the house here. I'll go there. I was in a cornfield a couple of weeks ago. I loved it. It was really, really, it was really great. So, yeah, there's something about being outdoors and writing to me that really works. I loved that. And I thought, gosh, that is such remarkable advice for any of us that have jobs that are on computers. If there is at all an opportunity for you to take that outdoors, it's really

going to help with your health. It's going to help with your eyesight. So I just wanted to kick it off there, written 25 books, but you haven't been stuffy sitting behind a desk. You've been outdoors doing that. Talk about your path toward writing a book together. Mark, you're a pastor. You're a next-gen pastor, so dealing with younger people and this is a book about our teens so i mean this is a hard day and age to be a parent

because a lot of the things that are coming up have not been issues in the past. We didn't walk through them ourselves. So we don't really know what do we talk about. What do we not talk about? What was your path to writing this book together? First of all, it was not on my radar to write a book. It's always been this guy's thing and watched his whole process with that so many times.

2:40.2

And so it started with you talking to me about a project you were working on.

2:44.5

Yeah.

It was one of those rare things where an editor talked with me and said, you know, there's this

book I've wanted to see.

2:51.8

I just wish I would see this book, but I have not seen it.

2:54.7

And I wonder with your experience, if this might be something that would resonate, you know,

2:59.5

with you.
