Another warm evening in Oakland, California. The temperature of the day reached into the low 90s. And it is a perfect night, now that it's begun to cool off a little bit, and there is a breeze blowing in from left field for this fifth game of the World Series. And let's again call in the voice of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Good evening, Vince coming. Thank you, Jim, and hi, everybody, and a very pleasant good evening to you wherever you may be.

The Dodgers and the Oakland A is about ready to go.

Certainly a great deal of uncertainty, but there are several things that we can be certain about.

Number one is the money.

This year's player pool of the 1974 World Series has set a record.

$1,258,000.

That's quite a pie to be cut up.

In fact, to put it in its proper perspective,

we did a little research on it.

Back in 1905 in the second World Series,

the total player pool was $27,000.

This year, the winning player will each receive $25,000.

But back in 1905, the clubs had to put in extra money

so that each winning player could get about $1,100,

and each loser $800.

That was a five-game series, and 91,000 spectators saw it, averaging 75 cents in admission. Baseball has come a long way. The players pool of the first game was 350, 350 in the second game, both of them in Los Angeles, and 275 in each of the two games played here in Oakland.

Though it's the biggest pie in history and the boys are ready to cut it up, in fact the city of

Oakland is ready to cut it up. They have prepared a victory celebration. Should it come tonight,

they'll have the street parades tomorrow. For the Dodgers, they are certain of one other thing.

This is a going home night, no matter what.

They either go home alone, a loser, or they go home with the A's and still alive.

And it'll be incapable hands tonight of Vida Blue and Don Sutton.
