The nightmare we all feared came true last week. Donald Trump has been elected for a second term as President of the United States. We're joined by our friend Norm Ornstein to make sense of it all. If we take Trump at his word, we should expect mass deportations, economic instability, further deterioration of women’s rights, attacks on public education, constant fights with the media and his critics and much worse. Norm discusses the long road ahead that could include devastation especially for the states that supported him the most. There's not a lot to be hopeful about right now, but Norm manages to share some good news for the years ahead...If we're willing to fight for it.

0:00.0 | Hey, everybody. We have a depressing one today, you know, for a change. |
0:09.3 | Norm Ornstein is with us. That's not why this is depressing. No, Donald Trump won the election. |
0:17.1 | He's going to be our president for four more years. I thought that was possible, but of course, |
0:23.6 | I was hoping for a different outcome. I guess I thought that Americans just wouldn't elect Trump again, |
0:31.1 | but what do I know? Maybe it's just me, but when he mimed filleting a microphone, |
0:37.8 | I thought that he had gone off the deep end. |
0:40.0 | He did that at one of his final rallies. |
0:43.6 | He mimed committing fellatio on his microphone. |
0:46.8 | I guess it was just a crude joke or some kind of comment on the fact that he could do that and that it wouldn't hurt him at all. |
0:57.0 | Kind of an inside joke for the fans at the rally. |
1:01.9 | Oh, look, he's doing that. |
1:03.5 | I hope the kids didn't understand what he did there. |
1:08.6 | Anyway, he won quite a bit, actually, and we'll have a majority in the |
1:13.8 | Senate and probably in the House. And he's only the second president to pull that off. The other being |
1:20.1 | Grover Cleveland. Let me be clear. Grover Cleveland didn't do that. I'm not sure whether they |
1:26.8 | even had microphones in the 1880s. No, here to |
1:30.8 | for Grover Cleveland is the only president to serve at non-consecutive terms. Now Trump will be the |
1:38.1 | second. Okay, I looked it up. The microphone was invented in the 1870s. So Grover Cleveland could have mimed philating a microphone in either or both of his two non-consecutive terms. |
1:51.8 | But I doubt very much that he did. |
1:53.7 | There's certainly no record of it, I would imagine. |
1:57.2 | I have no idea how to even look that up. |
2:00.8 | I just, but you can see why I thought it was odd that Trump did that, right? |
