The Fighting Irish is another game against the Trojans of Southern California.

Southern Cal comes into this game with a 49 to nothing win over Washington State.

The 17 to 13 win over Texas, 21 to 17 over Michigan State, and 30 to nothing over Sanford.

They have a score to settle with the Fighting Irish, and, uh, be, there are no doubt about it.

They're out to prove this afternoon that they deserve that number one ranking.

You've all been reading the newspapers, I'm quite certain.

You know that Notre Dame comes into this game, uh, with the odds favoring them by at least

10 points, which in itself is most unusual, that a number

one team faces a competitor and has that number one ranking more or less demeaned by the

odds makers favoring the opponent. The officials are still down there at midfield waiting

the arrival of these two ball clubs.

Here comes Notre Dame on the field, and this ball game will be getting underway in just a matter of moment.

Now before this kickoff, with a few more words about the preliminaries, here's your play-by-play announcer Jimmy Morse. Thank you, Frank. Notre Dame

just on the field below us here. As we told you a little bit earlier, it's a beautiful day

for football at Notre Dame. Temperature is 65 degrees. The sun is shining brightly, and the field

is in excellent condition. We have a wind from the west, southwest, at 8 to 15 miles an hour,

and shouldn't be much of a factor. Southern California won the toss this afternoon and elected

to receive. They'll defend the goal to our left, which is the north goal. Notre Dame, on the

other hand, we'll kick off and defend the goal to our right, which is the south goal as we sit on the west side of the stadium.

And, of course, we're very, very happy this afternoon to bring this football game to all of our listeners around the ABC radio network,

but also this game will be heard worldwide to our armed forces overseas through the facilities of armed forces radio.
