Again, everybody, this is Harry Carey from Beautiful Boys Stadium in St. North with the St. Louis Cardinals and the Los Angeles Dodgers start a vital three-game series, which will decide the National League pennants.

The opposing pitchers in this the first game of the series before a fellout crowd will be south-law, Johnny Pounders for the Dodgers, and right-hander Ernie Brolio for the Cuts.

Our guest on the dugout show will be a man you've heard me referred to many times

as one of the most underrated in the history of baseball.

My candidate for most valuable Dodgers, second baseman, third baseman, outfielder Jim Gilliam.

Jim, here we are in a big series.

Oh, yes, it is, Harry.

But one thing I don't agree with you where you said, where this series will decide the National League race

because I think you have eight games and we have nine more games to play.

And this league, you can never tell what will happen.

So after these three games, you don't know what's going to happen no next next eight or nine games that we have to play, because this was tough league. Yeah, of course, if you fellas win two out of three playing your last nine at home, you like your chances better, won't you? Well, I would have to say more, I would say so, too, because you never know what will happen in this league. You, like the Cardinals have been going great guns.

I've never seen a club as winning as many games as they've won in the last month.

And we haven't been doing too bad ourselves.

But next week is another day or another week.

So you never know what's going to happen.

I'd like to ask you the reaction of you

and the rest of the Dodgers to this consistent pressure that Cardinals are put on by winning every day.

I guess you couldn't help to talk about it, huh? Well, naturally, you're going to talk about it,

but it's nothing you can do about it, but go out there day in and day out and play the best ball you can.

So the fellows, they just go out there and do the best they can. If you're fellas had played as well last year at this time, as you have this year, you'd have this year, you'd have walked in a year ago, wouldn't you? Well, I'd say so. I think we played pretty good ball last year, but I think our best was a little week last year, and the guys got a little tired last week. And this one of the six-year-stranded schedule is a lot of games, and the guys that play everything is bound to get tired, little. Jim, how come you don't show more effects to it? Now, you're not a real big guy, and you've been in the league a few years, and if you're not playing second base or playing third base or the outfield, you think you should wear out, but you don't.

Well, Harry, I'll tell you, it's a bit more than I've gotten those times, but I've been able to get a rest here and there for a day or so, and it helps me a lot.

I don't know. I think it's your fiscal being. If you're in pretty good condition, you can play a little longer.
