0:06.1	I'm Erin Scala and here's our show today. Oh, Germany is in a fascinating period of transition right now as the VDP fine tunes its organization of a new way to
0:35.1	think about wines in Germany. What we consider to be the classic wines of
0:39.4	Germany, the Pratak categories laid out in the German wine laws of 1971,
0:44.0	the Cabotles, Bélès, and Ause-Lisez, as we all know.
0:47.0	These are still thriving,
0:51.0	but some winemakers are keen to make wines that interface better
0:54.6	with certain international markets.
0:57.3	Wines that are clearly dry, even if their sugar levels at harvest, could put them in
1:01.1	a Spelize or Ausezé category.
1:04.0	It's not just the VDP members that are popularizing this dry style of wine
1:08.0	and the subtleties of labeling these wines differently than the Pradacat wines.
1:12.0	Many producers throughout Germany
1:14.1	are either making wines this way or experimenting with making wines this way.
1:19.2	The VDP however is having great success and they're leading the charge.
1:25.0	Their new rules in 2012 outlined several key changes that have since made big impacts on the German
