The sun is out, and it's going to be quite an afternoon.

The Cubs come home from a trip that, while it was nowhere near as successful as the preceding road trip,

were still quite a trip on the road.

And yes, they lost several tough ball games, very tough ball games, but some of the fans have wondered,

oh, you know, questions

that come to me time and again, Matt. What's wrong with the Cubs and this, that and the other thing? Well, my answer has always been that as far as I can tell, there's nothing matter with the Cubs. He might not have been hitting for the moment or something like that. So I've asked the young man, a very red-headed young man, to come over here and chat with me this afternoon and tell you a little bit of the inside of something that perhaps doesn't

ordinarily come to your mind.

Along this line, this man is Johnny Gordon, the coach of the Cubs, whom we've talked to before,

and one of the coaches' chief jobs is not only to help develop young players and keep them going and correcting falls, but keep a ball players head up and keep them going good. And I just want to ask Johnny Gordon a few questions along the lineup. Just how it is, it's a pretty tough job when they're going to get a little bit tough like it is now with a picking and field and great and hitting and going bad. It's a little bit tough for some of those youngsters? Certainly is tough, Hal, but I can answer that question in this respect.

A baseball player's life is the same as any other individual in any line of business.

No matter what profession any outsider might follow outside of baseball, he leaped with reversing.

And I claim this,

Hal, that in order to be successful, one should try and encourage him into baseball when he's

meeting with reverse. In other words, the ball player that's going out here, for instance,

any ball player, for instance, for a gland, for instance, comes out here to make four base hits in one day, and we win the ball game.

Actually, he doesn't need any encouragement because he knows he's delivered at particular game.

Otherwise, if he's spent the difficulties on the ball field,

stuck out a couple of times as men are in running positions.

That's when I claim that color needs attention. He needs to be able to encourage.

None of it needs encouragement, Hal, when we are delivered.

And we know when we are delivered.
