Hi Lee and welcome to the secret room. Hi thanks for having me. Your story Lee is about a harrowing experience where you were literally abducted from your parents house and they were all for it right. Yeah they paid to have that happen.

1:51.0

So they orchestrated the whole kidnapping and you didn't have any joints but to go along with it. No I was still a minor so I had no say in the matter. Okay well we've got a lot to unpack here and we're going to get to that night and then go beyond.

But I'd like to start with learning a little bit about how you grew up because I know it's a very important part of your story. So I grew up in a southern Baptist home in a suburb of North Dallas.

My parents were very stringent with the rules and my sister was very good at abiding to them and I was not. Everything was fine until I hit puberty and in about middle school I started rebelling pretty hard against authority and that is where things sort of took a turn for the worst.

2:41.0

How so?

2:43.0

I just never really grew out of that phase where a kid asks but why but why do I have to do that? You know every single thing that I was told by an authority figure it was but I need a rational reason to abide by what you're saying that makes sense to me before I'll do it and that was just very deep within my personality at that point couldn't really shake that.

Most kids at that age or a lot of kids at that age rebel.

3:10.0

How was yours different?

3:13.0

It was pretty typical looking back in the early stages you know calls from teachers to my parents pretty frequently and you know speaking out in class and pushing back on rules that I didn't see were just and things of that nature nothing super super crazy at that point but I'm

3:35.0

high school is a bit of a different story.

3:37.0

Was there any messaging from your parents that you took exception to?

3:41.0

Yeah any moral guidance or behavioral guidance from my parents was always in a religious context and that never really resonated with me that didn't click for me I always had more questions and I did answers when it came to those guidelines and the way that they were trying to structure my life was not one that I could align with very easily.

4:04.0

And I kind of felt like a fish out of water a lot of the time your parents were sounds like very religious and religion was not something that you really were taking to.

4:16.0

No looking back I definitely started pushing back against religion when I hit that puberty phase of obstinance and needing to know why things were the way things were and I was like I was going to be a little bit more careful.

4:33.0

And they didn't have any answers for me that were of any realistic value I guess and.
