information at all. Well what if we were to do a search through old literature for inferences to wine?

One of the first references in literature is attributed to Homer. In the Iliad, Achilles looks out over the water at a wine dark

sea and laments the funeral of his lover.

Meanwhile, Hesiod is much more practical as he describes life as a wealthy farmer between

six and 700 BC in Greece.

In his cornerstone work that outlines everyday Greek life, works in days, he talks about vineyard work and drinking

wine when the work is done.

When the snail climbs up the plants from the earth to escape the Pleiades, then it is no longer the season for digging vineyards.

When the artichoke flowers and the chirping grasshopper sits in a tree and

pours down his shrill song continually from under his wings in the season of wearisome heat.

Then, goats are plumpest and wine sweetest.

Women are most wanton and men are feebless because Sirius parches head and knees and the

skin is dry through heat.

But at that time let me have a shady rock and wine of bibless. A clot of curds and milk of drained goats,

with the flesh of a heifer fed in the woods. Then also let me drink bright wine.

Sitting in the shade when my heart is satisfied with food,

and so turning my head to face the fresh zephyr from the ever-flowing spring which pours down

unfowled, thrice pour an offering of water, but make a fourth

libation of wine.
