And I'm L'Orienne McKenna and today we're going to be talking with veteran showrunner Jeff Melvoine.

Jeff Melvoine is an award-winning television writer, producer, showrunner, and educator.

He has written dozens and produced hundreds of one-hour episodes on over a dozen television series. He is the founder and

chair of the Writers Guild of America's showrunner training program now entering

its 19th year. His book running the Show, Television from the Inside was published by

Applause Books in September 2023 and has been a bestseller on Amazon.

So hi Jeff, welcome to the show.

We were all together on a panel.

Well, what was it?

Was a weekend of, of, it was just so we sat in on your

seminar and we're just blown away, then we read your book, we couldn't wait, so

thank you so much for coming now before we get into our interview with Jeff

we're going to do our Adventures in Screenwriting aka how was your week we'll let

Lorian start how was your week? your week.

So a lot on the show I talk about the struggle of balancing a full life with being a writer.

And this week has been particularly challenging. My husband had just finished a round of

COVID when my daughter got sick and then her insulin pump broke, which means that I had to give her shots again like we had to do at the very beginning of her diagnosis.

And it was really stressful and with all the sickness and the stress of it and she was home of course because of the cold and it made it really hard to focus on anything else and so I had to work really really hard to find

places where I could focus on my creative work and I wouldn't say I was that successful, honestly.
