And I'm L'Orian McKenna. And today we are so excited to be featuring a special listener spotlight interview

featuring a longtime TSL listener Jennifer Deaton. We are really especially

excited to have her on because she is a studio reader and I personally want to know what a

studio reader does and how it works and you know she's going to have a really

interesting perspective on writing because she's also a writer and she has learned a lot about

writing and the other side which is how your writing is assessed. And she's a really

big advocate of communities and community building and has built some of her own. of So thanks for joining us Jen. Thank you. You sound just like Megan Lorian on the podcast.

But you didn't know that. I might have a little

is Jenn to join us. So Lorient, how was your adventures in screenwriting this week?

It was good.

Yesterday I got a call from someone who used to be a PA for me in production

and he told me that he sold his first script.

And it's in large part because of the podcast and because of how, you know, encouraging I've always been with him and reading his stuff. you know he did it it was his thing like he stuck with it but it just made me feel so happy and excited for him and proud of him and at the end of the call I was like well hey if you're ever looking for someone to

staff when you sell your TV show you know call me and he was like yep and I was like yeah

I'm not kidding like this is how it all works right like I'm not this is we're all equal here right I'm looking for work just like he is so but that for me was

really special because you know I got to hire someone sort of his first production job and then you know now he's a writer officially so I'm very very it's very cool the other thing is I am in this place where I have been

Working on a project and I'm trying to write the sort of pitch for it so it's very outside in for me because that's how I need to sell this project.

It's a feature and it's a challenge for me because I write usually from character point of view and I'm really struggling with this idea that keeps rolling around in my head I can't do it I don't know what I'm doing I'm really bad at this and I've been trying to figure out what it is, like is it
