Summary

Stella & Sasha welcome former public defender and education advocate, Maud Maron to the show for a fascinating conversation examining the intersection of education and politics. Maud reflects on the troubling shifts within schools, where merit and academic standards are being overshadowed by ideological pressures.

In this episode, Maud discusses the evolving landscape of education, where traditional academic standards are increasingly being influenced or overshadowed by ideological pressures from social and political agendas. She highlights the impact of identity politics, gender ideology, and equity measures on core educational values. Drawing from her personal experiences from pushing for enhanced math standards, to becoming embroiled in a heated debate over gender guidelines in New York City's public schools, Maud recounts the tactics used to silence her dissent. Despite her efforts to initiate a respectful dialogue on the impact of gender policies on female athletes, Maud faced significant backlash, raising broader concerns about free speech and the pressures of ideological conformity within educational and public forums.

This episode offers invaluable insights for parents, educators, political followers, free speech advocates, and those curious about how the politicization of education and ideological pressures are diluting the emphasis on academic performance, sparking concerns about the long-term impact on students' education and society at large.

How's it going Sasha? How are you? I'm doing well. It was really interesting to talk to

0:37.6

Modmaren today. Modmaren gives us a really good glimpse of what's going on all over the world in in

0:44.3

schools around the world where people are just trying to look out for the kids and

0:49.2

make sure that you know everybody's getting a good education and that we're allowed to kind of speak up when we need to

0:55.2

and we disagree and people are being shamed for it and mud marin is not shamed she keeps speaking up but what what was done to her as well here in this episode was pretty horrific if you ask me.

1:08.6

Yeah, so she was, you know, initially interested in getting involved with schools around things like merit and academics

1:17.4

and the way young people are assessed in schools and then her daughter went to high school and had to give her pronouns in every single class.

1:26.1

So this is what sparked Maud's interest in what's going on with schools and gender.

1:31.8

And as you'll hear, she was kicked off of a school board because of something

1:36.7

she had written and she recently posted on September 4th that she got restored to her elected school board seat.

1:44.8

So if you want the backstory of that, you can hear it in today's episode with Maud.

1:50.7

And it's interesting because she's one of these great examples of how people who are firmly within kind of the political left end up finding contradictions and a lot of kind of aggressive behavior that makes people feel like they need to leave that political party and this is a common story that we hear over and over.

2:10.0

As well as that when you listen to Maud speaking and you realize that she just has a

2:16.2

civic nature. She was, you know, she's thinking of the greater good and she's thinking of how to

2:20.5

improve society and she just is that way inclined. And then when you hear her outline

2:26.3

the demonstration that happened to try and silence her and you realize that the tactics, they're dirty tactics and you know like a kind of a hateful rhyme that she discusses called hey, hey, hoe, the hateful hateful ho has got to go.
