Summary

Friday 6 June this year was the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy. My Grandad Dennis was one of the soldiers who landed on the beach that day. Along with thousands of other men he risked his life to fight the Nazis in the 2nd World War. Many of his fellow soldiers did not survive. Last Friday I went to Caen in Northern France to take part in the D-Day commemorations and to see my comedy hero Eddie Izzard performing stand-up in 3 languages. I recorded a podcast during my trip, and some unexpected things happened! Listen to the episode to join me on my adventure. https://teacherluke.co.uk/2014/06/10/183-lukes-d-day-diary/

Hello ladies and gentlemen welcome to Luke's English podcast I would be very very surprised indeed if you could hear anything I'm

0:20.8

saying to you very clearly because it's extremely noisy.

0:24.0

What's going on? Well, I'm on a train and I'm in a toilet.

0:28.0

How? Why? Well, obviously I'm in a toilet on a train which is quite cool because it well, it's not that cool really

0:37.0

It's I'm in a train toilet. It's slightly disgusting. It's a bit smelly and it's quite noisy in here. I hope that you can actually

0:45.5

hear this. What's going on? Well, not only is this the first time that I've ever recorded

0:52.2

an episode of Luke's English

0:54.3

podcast on a train. It's also the first time I've ever recorded an episode in a

0:59.3

toilet and I'm doing both of those things for the first time today so it's a kind of a

1:03.8

particularly special episode just for those two reasons already. Why am I on a

1:09.4

train and why am I in the toilet? Well normally when you go to the toilet you go to

1:15.4

urinate or something but no that's not the way I operate. I needed a place to

1:19.7

record this episode of Luke's English podcast and maybe unwisely I chose to do it in the

1:26.0

toilet. No it's just I'm busy and I wanted to just take a couple of minutes out of my

1:31.4

journey to talk to you and what's going on.

1:35.0

All right I'm on a train to Normandy in the north of France and go to a place called

1:41.0

Com. I think that's how you pronounce it

1:43.0

it and it's a town in Normandy and there today on the 6th of June

1:51.2

today there's a huge commemoration for the 70th anniversary of D-Day.

1:57.0

D-Day of course is when the Allied troops landed on the beaches of Normandy in a huge invasion as a way of fighting
