Now I've been getting a lot of emails about my use of the old Norse word, Vikingar.

And people have been wondering what it means.

A Vikingar is someone who goes a Viking.

The reason why I tend to use that term rather than just saying Viking is twofold.

First, I like to bring old words back, which is why I tend to use the word wear-odd when

talking about Anglo-Saxon warbands.

But second, because most people think Viking applies to all Scandinavians from this period.

So by saying Vikingar, I'm trying to make it really clear that we're just talking about

a small group of people who went to Viking.
