Summary

There's probably listeners out there who homeschool their kids using a curriculum that you've developed or bought online. But there's another type of homeschooling that doesn't use a curriculum, and it's called unschooling. It's a fascinating concept in which you have your kids at home, but put them in situations where they need to use problem solving skills and math and other subjects to complete a task at hand. My guest today, Ben Hewitt, has unschooled his two boys, and on the show we talk about how and why they've chosen this lifestyle.

0:22.9	Keep your kids out from public or private schools, but you follow a curriculum at home that you

0:30.2	Well, there's another type of at-home schooling that has no curriculum.
0:33.9	It's called unschooling, completely fascinated by this concept.
0:37.2	Basically, you keep your kids home and you put them in situations where they have to learn
0:42.5	math in order to complete the task and surprisingly they learn math.
0:45.8	Well, my guest today, he's homeschooled or unschooled his two boys.
0:49.8	His name's Ben Hewitt.

0:51.9	He lives in Northern Vermont.
0:53.4	And today on the show, we're going to discuss his experience, unschooling his two boys and
0:58.8	letting them run wild in the wilderness of Vermont and the things they've learned because

1:04.0	But we also talk about Ben's decision when him and his wife decided to build a homestead
1:09.1	in Vermont, a house they built together from scratch on their own, how they did that,
1:15.3	why they did that, why they decided to live a very simple lifestyle.
