The Sun Gym on Biscayne Boulevard in Miami, with its big shiny windows was the monument of

lifestyle in Miami in the 1990s.

Within its walls laid a world of beautiful bodies, drugs, and sex.

This was not a gym for casual occasional workout members. Professional bodybuilders used its facilities

to prepare for competitions. Most people who frequented the Sun Gym took fitness to the next level. The Sun Jim opened its doors in January 1987. Owner

John Meese was a frustrated has-been bodybuilder, turned CPA who was eager to

promote bodybuilding competitions in Miami.

In his glory days, John was crowned as Mr United Kingdom,

a bodybuilding contest he entered while stationed in the UK on military service in 1962.

He measured a 60 inch chest and 19 and a half inch biceps.

To compare, at the height of his bodybuilding career,

Arnold Schwarzenegger's chest measured 57 inches and his arms 22 inches.

So yeah, John was a well-ripped big guy.
