Let's have another real person episode where this week I'm joined by Market Watch columnist

0:04.1

Beth Penskear to talk about our new book, My Mother's Money, A Guide to Financial Caregiving,

0:08.5

and this is the 179th episode, the Retirement Planning Education Podcast.

0:16.3

And now here's your host, Andy Panko.

0:33.6

Hello, everyone. Welcome back. Thank you, as always for listening. I wanted to add a correction to

0:40.3

episode that came out two weeks ago when I did the one about year-end tax planning stuff to consider.

0:47.6

So someone thankfully reached out to me soon after who listened to it and pointed out that

0:52.1

something I said was incorrect and I realized

0:55.5

something else I said was also incorrect. So I wanted to update that now. I would have last week

1:01.1

given you all the corrections since that was the most recent episode after the one with the

1:06.2

bad info. But I often record these out of order and stuff.

1:11.0

And so last week's episode was already done in the can, you know, whatever finalized.

1:15.5

I didn't want to go and have to edit the episode and stuff.

1:17.5

So I forgot I just wait until now.

1:18.4

But anyway, so the thing I said incorrect was that I said you can make a 2025 IRA or Roth IRA contribution.

1:25.4

I think I said a GSA contribution as well up until you file your

1:28.4

tax return the following year plus extensions. So like normally you'd have until April 15th,

1:34.4

2026 or whenever you file your tax return, whatever, come sooner to make a 2025 IRA, Roth IRA,

1:40.8

or HSA contribution. I then also said that that deadline also includes extensions.

1:45.8

So if you were to get a tax return extension, that brings you to October 15th or whatever to file your tax return.

1:51.2

And therefore, it gives you to October 15th to also make a 2025 contribution to your IRA, Roth, IRA, HSA.
