Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Mormon Stories podcast.

I am John DeLin, one of your hosts for today.

And we are super excited today to be covering a new documentary, a four part documentary

that was recently released on Amazon Prime.

It's called shiny, happy people, a dougar family secrets.

It's a limited docu-series exposing the truth beneath the wholesome Americana surface of

reality TV's favorite mega family, the dougars and the radical organization behind them,

the institute in basic life principles or the IBLP.

As details of the family and their scandals unfold, we realize they're part of an insidious,

much larger threat, already in motion with democracy itself in peril.

It's a little bit scary, but I'm just going to say right off of the start, I kind of follow

high demand religions and or cults.

It's kind of my thing.

I've been doing this for at least 20 years.

And I am embarrassed to say number one, I never watched the dougars.

So this was like binge watching all new material for me.

But secondly, I'd freaking never heard of Bill Gothard or IBLP or ATI, which we'll be discussing.

I had of course heard about homeschoolers because there are plenty of homeschoolers within

Mormon culture and in Utah culture.

But this was a fascinating series for me.
