Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Mormon Stories podcast, a special UK edition.

I am your host John DeLin or one of your hosts for today.

It is June 7th, 2023 and we have a super exciting, special news flash announcement.

The topic for today is keeping LDS children safe in the UK.

I would add as a little addition today.

I have as my co-host Nemo the Mormon from the Nemo the Mormon YouTube channel.

We're also featuring Jane of 21st century Saints, which is another podcast in YouTube channel

in the progressive and post-mormon space in the UK.

What we're going to be talking about today is breaking news that apparently the Mormon

church in the UK is going to be requiring background checks of any church members who

are called to work with children or youth throughout the entire country.

If any of you have been following Mormon Stories podcast for the past 10 or 15 years and the work

of Sam Young and Protect LDS children and all the abuse cases that we've been covering,

just so many people for so many years and decades have been hoping that the Mormon church

would just do a simple thing that so many other mainstream religions do across the United States

and across the world, which is to have background checks on any way to work for children or youth.

And even in the state of California and the United States as I understand it,

this has actually become law, but we're all wondering why the Mormon church with its quarter

of a trillion dollars wouldn't just take this tiny and relatively inexpensive step to protect children.

And it turns out that a small group of activists in the UK, and I would say particularly activist

women in the UK, have made monumental strides towards helping the Mormon church, at least in one

country, do the right thing. So without any further ado, we have Nimo the Mormon joining us.
