Basically, it's the tense you'll need to chat and build good rapport with Italians.

There is a special name for the past tense we're talking about. It's called

el pasto-possimo. You don't have to worry about remembering the fancy name though. Just know that

it's the main past tense in Italian. And it's also used a lot like in English, so there aren't too many strange concepts to get used to

in terms of when you would use it.
