This week, her book, Fresh Banana Leaves, Healing Indigenous Landscapes Through Indigenous Science, was released and has been so, so well and widely received.

different topics. Let me give you a little bit of background. Dr. Jessica Hernandez is a

transnational indigenous scholar, scientist, and community activist based in the Pacific Northwest.

Her academic background is interdisciplinary, so she has studied marine sciences and forestry,

but generally her work is grounded in her indigenous cultures and the ways of knowing

through her community. She advocates for climate, energy, and environmental justice through

her scientific work and her community work and strongly believes that indigenous sciences can

heal our indigenous lands. We talked today about that concept of healing landscapes, and it was a conversation
