I was told by total dumb luck we got the we got the case in 1982 before I even came to homicide.

One of the people involved in the many schemes that the Wender Hill Gang,

as they were known, was running, was a skimming operation from World Highly.

And we had a very popular Highly, Highly Fronton here. People would come and bet on the games and things like that.

And so these guys had their fingers in that in that business. The guy's name was

John Callahan and you know the Winter Hill gang was really Whitey Bulger and all his people

did 98% of their work in Boston. That was their home base. That's where they were all from. But when they killed

Callahan, and we didn't know it killed him at first, but we found out later, but

when they killed Callahan, they killed him in Miami. So that's what got our

department involved in that.

And the original lead detective,

guy named Shelton Merritt, worked the case and ended up retiring,

never solved it, but had done enough work on it to be able to identify the people involved
