| 0:00.0 | Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Mormon Stories podcast. I am one of your co-hosts for today John DeLin |
| 0:07.2 | And I am super excited to have with us in studio Dr. Simon Sotherton joining us from Australia. Hey Simon |
| 0:14.8 | Good. I don't know you. Thanks for joining us. Good to be here. And we have of course in studio with us |
| 0:20.7 | Herato Sumano. Hey, Arrato. Hey, John. So glad to have you. Yeah, really excited about this. Excellent. All right |
| 0:27.8 | So as you all know, we have been working with Dr. Sotherton to be talking about science and science |
| 0:34.7 | and Mormonism and specifically how science and Mormon doctrine sometimes come in conflict. This |
| 0:40.8 | is the next part in that series. We are trying to do one of these per month. I believe last time we |
| 0:46.4 | did Adam and Eve and the garden and today we are here to cover Noah's flood and you know a |
| 0:53.4 | discussion of Noah's flood in the context of what the scientific body of research are. So Simon, |
| 0:58.7 | take it away. What do you got for us today? Okay, well the global flood or the flood of Noah has |
| 1:05.4 | always been a particularly troubling thing for me. In fact, if I was to most people would think that |
| 1:14.6 | it was DNA that took me out of the church but in fact it was it was really Noah's flood and |
| 1:20.3 | the beliefs that the church teaches concerning the flood of Noah that sort of washed me out of |
| 1:26.9 | the church and in many respects. And we'll talk about that a little bit later on but before we go, |
| 1:34.8 | I just want to sort of give some highlights of what we're going to talk about today. Firstly, |
| 1:40.4 | most importantly, we're going to be joined by Professor David Montgomery from the University of |
| 1:45.8 | Washington in Seattle. He's got a PhD, I think he's got a degree out of Stanford and a PhD out of |
| 1:54.0 | the University of California in Berkeley. He's also a very prolific writer on mostly on |
| 2:01.2 | soil and or dirt which is a very, very crucial subject for the survival of human society. |
| 2:09.6 | I know in Australia, a soil is a very, very delicate commodity and we need to care for our soils |
| 2:18.8 | and he's done an awful lot of work in this area in the northern hemisphere in particular. |
| 2:26.4 | So after we've talked about doctrine, we'll invite David to join us. So I'm really looking forward |
