Perched above the Hudson River in the quiet village of Nyack, New York, sits a charming Victorian house with a chilling secret.

It's home to a number of spirits.

It became the first house to be declared legally

haunted in the United States. This haunting became so well known. It's taught in law schools all

across the country. It all began with Helen and George Ackley. In 1967, they were in the market

for a new home in Nyack, New York, a home they could grow into

with their young children.

Nyack, New York is a small, quaint village founded in 1883 with a population of just more than 6,000

people.

The village still really holds onto that late 19th century charm.

They toured a few other homes in the area,

but one stuck out to them.

Richard Ellis of Ellis Realty took George and Helen

through one particular home, and they fell in love.
