I'm Max Ruscott. This week, the NTSB held a four-hour-long board meeting and went through all of the factors that led to the crash of an Atlas Air 767 last year, which suddenly plummeted from 6,000 feet into a bay near Houston.

0:23.6

And the reason we're talking about it today is that there are many factors from this accident

0:28.1

that apply to GA pilots.

0:30.3

And like most accidents, there was not just one but many factors that led to this crash.

0:35.2

And like most GA accidents, pilot air was the cause,

0:38.9

and it led to the loss of three lives and a perfectly good 767. One of the many causes was

0:44.6

somatogravic illusion, and we'll touch on that today, but I also plan to do a separate episode

0:49.2

on that soon as it affects all pilots in a variety of ways. Now, last week in episode 155, we talked with Dr. Catherine Kavanaugh about spin avoidance

0:58.4

and spin recovery.

0:59.7

So if you miss that episode, I really recommend you see the video version of it on my YouTube

1:04.4

channel as I included all of Catherine's videos that we talked about in that episode.

1:08.8

And you can see that version by going on YouTube and searching

1:11.2

for Aviation News Talk. And I'll be doing a video version of this episode, so look for that on

1:16.4

YouTube in a few days. And if you subscribe to my YouTube channel now, you'll be notified when I

1:21.3

post that video version of this episode in a few days. And you can do that on my YouTube channel,

1:26.0

and there's also a link in the show notes.

1:28.2

And at the very end of the show, I'll tell you how you can support this show financially,

1:32.3

as this is a listener-supported show, and I greatly appreciate your donations via Patreon

1:36.5

and PayPal, as I'm not teaching in the air these days because of the high levels of COVID

1:40.6

in this area. Also, at the end of the episode, I'll run through five things that

1:44.4

pilots should take away from this accident. See if you can pick them out while listening to the show.
