0:22.4	It's Monday's headline brief, heavy on news, lighter on analysis, launching us into a new
0:27.0	week with events that, as ever, are shaping America and the world. We begin with a very, very painful
0:33.6	theme this morning, and that is Islamic terrorism. The Wall Street Journal reports that two
0:38.2	American soldiers from the Iowa National Guard were killed in Syria over the weekend. A U.S. civilian
0:43.2	contractor working with them as an interpreter was also killed. The group was based at American
0:48.5	Garrison near the border with Jordan and Iraq, along with about 1,000 U.S. service members.
0:53.5	The three were on their way to a Syrian
0:55.0	intel or security base in the central part of that country with a plan to meet with Syrian
1:00.1	government officials to expand our intelligence and kinetic operations against ISIS.
1:05.2	When these three arrived at the entrance of the meeting location, a member of Syria's security
1:09.5	forces opened fire with a machine gun.
1:12.4	The killer was in the process of actually being removed from the country's military because of
1:16.7	his suspected ties to the Islamic State. But for whatever reason, this guy who was crouched in the
1:22.1	nearby building was still on site. And now three Americans are dead, with two of them from Iowa folks,
1:29.0	joining many others over the past 25 years or so have also been killed by Islamic radicals
1:34.4	in the Middle East. Sadly, that includes even more victims in Australia this morning, also killed
1:40.3	by radicalized Muslims. Reuters, ABC, and the Australian report that two Islamic radicals, a father-son duo of
1:47.6	Pakistani origin, shot and killed at least 16 Jewish people at a local beach in that country
1:52.7	where they were celebrating the first day of Hanukkah.
1:55.7	A Holocaust survivor was amongst the victims.
