In this episode, I want to talk to you about the word work of biblical preaching.

Good preaching is hard work. Let me say that again. Good preaching is hard work.

Good, sound, clear preaching does not grow on trees. If you are going to be an impactful preacher, an effective preacher, it requires hard work.

I know it may not seem that way when you listen to your pulpit heroes, your homiletical heroes,

your model preachers. It may not seem that preaching is hard work, but take it from me.

Those who make it look easy most often work hard to make it look easy. One more time for the

road. Good preaching is hard work. That hard work falls into three categories. There the life you live the texts you select and the

message you prepare the hard work first of all is the life that you live no preachers are not

perfect we all already know that factor. And we are not necessarily the perfect

embodiment of everything that we preach, but we most definitely should not be a blatant contradiction

to the things that we preach. We should, in the language of 1st

Timothy 4, 6, guard our lives and our teaching. We should watch both our conduct and our

doctrine to ensure our salvation and the salvation of those who hear us. It has been well said, and I can't

pull up the exact quotation or the attribution right now, but it has been well said that the

most important thing a church needs from its pastor is that pastor's holiness. And so there is the hard

work of living the life, of living in such a way so that, as Paul says in first Corinthians,

that you don't preach to others and find yourself disqualified. Secondly, is the text that you select. Once that text is

selected, there is hard work that needs to be done to properly understand that text to shape it

before you get to the place where you shape it for preaching,
