Summary

We all love a good reset. Weekends help us decompress before the start of a new week. A new school year helps us to get re-energized for a new group of students, and a new year helps us to feel refreshed and ready to tackle the last 5 months of school. But what about those times in the year when we don’t have a break. How do we go about resetting during the middle of the week or during our planning periods. In this episode we have some of our best tips for getting you back on track. We want to share how you can get your planning done efficiently when you’ve gone off course.  In this episode we share:  Why calling yourself out is the first (most critical) step to solving any problem.  How making excuses can be easy but they keep us from finding a solution.  The steps for getting you back on track.  Why creating a plan can help you build the momentum you need to keep going.  How knowing your why can give you the inspiration and motivation you need to push through a difficult time.  SUBMIT YOUR TIME SUCKING HURDLE! We want to know what is sucking up all of your time either as a teacher or just a person. Head over to our website and submit your TSH so that you can have a chance to be featured on the podcast! Well, hello there, top teachers. We are your hosts, Michelle Emerson and Bridget Spackman,

0:05.2

and we are here to make your life easier by helping you master your time, organization,

0:09.4

and productivity as a teacher. In today's episode, we're doing a reset. No, not a juice cleanse

0:16.4

or anything like that, but we are going to share our best tips for getting back on track.

When you notice you've gone kind of off course with your planning time, yes, we know,

0:28.0

we know this happens, okay? And we have figured out how to plan more efficiently after

0:34.5

spending all that time chatting with your coworkers and we're going to share our

0:37.7

secrets with you. But first, let's hear a TSH from Amy. Amy says, I am a first year teacher and the

0:44.2

amount of prep to do before the kids come back is overwhelming. I feel like I'm hopping from item to

0:50.2

item, idea to idea, and I'm struggling to focus my attention on priorities versus once.

0:56.9

I wish I had a new teacher checklist to help me navigate the squirrel shiny object syndrome.

1:04.4

Amy, first of all, I mean, this is part of being a new teacher.

1:08.7

It's this whole you don't know what you don't know until you

1:11.3

figure it out. And I know that it's not necessarily helpful because it's not a good feeling when you

1:17.2

don't know what you're doing or you feel like you're all over the place, but just know it does get

1:21.2

easier. I'm going to give kind of two little nuggets here. First, I do have a like beginning of the year, it's not quite a checklist.

1:31.4

I have like a list of routines and procedures to teach. And then I also have a list of like

1:36.6

questions to ask like coworkers and stuff like that. So those might be helpful. But I think what

1:42.8

would be even better for you is as you're doing things,

1:46.3

you are going to start creating your own checklist because as much as you would love to just find a

1:52.1

pre-made checklist out there, you're never going to find one that's everything you need for your

1:56.1

unique situation. So start creating your own. That way next year, it will be that much easier for you so you can
