Paul on Mars Hill in Acts Chapter 17, Dr Adam Francisco.

He's director of academics and scholar in Scholar in Residence for 1517,

adjunct professor of history at Concordia University Chicago,

co-editor of Making the Case for Christianity and author of a column

for the Just fine. The Apostle Paul is there in Athens. He doesn't immediately go and engage the philosophers on Mars Hill.

He goes first to the synagogue. Why does he do that?

Well Luke, the author of Acts, tells it that it was just his custom.

His usual method, if you will, was to, if there was a synagogue in the cities he was visiting during his missionary journeys, he'd go to the

synagogue first. It's probably a little more than just that's what he did. You know, for the

synagogue for him, you know know the gospel is first to the Jew then to the Greek so he saw

Perhaps as the an evangelist and apologist he thought the synagogue was the place where he would find more, for lack of a better way of putting it common ground because he does have the Old Testament or the Hebrew Bible in common with those Jewish people and he's as Luke puts it when he goes into the synagogue
