Summary

There is little doubt that Henry Vth always intended to fight in France - unless they completely rolled over. Which was unlikely; the French were perfectly ready to fight and on the surface at least united in the face of the English threat, and looking forward to giving them a beating. This week, Henry prepares.

Hello everyone, welcome back to the History of England, episode 144, the Aging Core campaign,

0:28.9

episode 1. Do you know it's a funny thing? When I was a lad, formed by a liberal but abnormally

patriotic father, I had no problem with the popularity of Aging Core with the English.

0:41.6

After all, I was a lad. I had no thought for how miserable it must have been for the soldiers,

0:47.1

pulling their way across France, all for the sake of their King's dynastic ambitions.

0:52.4

No thought of the agonies of dying in the mud, crushed by the weight of the bodies of your comrades,

1:42.6

episodes on the Aging Core campaign, yes, three episodes on the Aging Core campaign.

1:48.8

One for set up, which is today? One for the campaign, and one for the battle itself. What can I say?

1:55.2

Sorry, seems to be the hardest word. Sadly, I inherited my father's by now deeply unfashionable outlook.

2:04.1

So seriously, why is Aging Core on the lips of every Englishman,

2:08.0

where Cressy and Poitier, Victorus, every bit as glorious and unlikely, are not? Why the focus

2:14.4

on this one battle as the crowning achievement of English arms?

2:18.3

After all, despite Anne Carr is attempt to argue that it was a strategic and decisive event in

2:25.0

the role of history in their scheme of things, it really wasn't. Within ten years, the English
