Summary

Welcome to the first episode of a new interview series I’ll be holding two times per month. In these interviews, I’ll have a casual conversation with mothers who are living in countries around the world. We’ll discuss topics like prenatal care, pregnancy, postnatal care, delivery, schooling, and parenting in other countries. Today we are joined by Jenna. She is a wife and mom of four girls. She has been living in Germany for the last year, and gave birth to her fourth baby while residing there. She will tell us all about her experience of having a baby in Germany. Jenna also has a daughter in first grade, and speaks to their experience of the schools in Germany compared to here in the states. Let me tell you, it is EYE-OPENING to say the least! In this episode we discuss: -Prenatal, Birth, and Postpartum care in Germany -What the COVID lockdown is like abroad -The major differences in German schools compared to the United States -Examples of how public spaces abroad are created with children in mind Resources mentioned: -There’s No Such Thing as Bad Weather: A Scandinavian Mom’s Secrets for Raising Healthy, Resilient, and Confident Kids Connect with me on Instagram @motherhoodmeetsmedicine. So today I am starting off my podcast interviews that will involve mothers that reside in a

0:16.8

different country and these episodes are very laid back and they talk about prenatal

0:23.2

care, pregnancy, postnatal care delivery, schooling, the way that people panel parenting

0:29.6

in different countries and so many other things and so we will go back and forth between

0:35.2

subjects during these interviews and the first interview I am doing is with Jenna and Jenna

0:41.2

is a mom of four girls. She's married to her high school sweetheart and they took a leap of faith

last year and moved to Germany for the next three years. So she moved there last summer and she

was very early on in her fourth pregnancy at the time so she was able to experience prenatal

0:59.6

the birthing process and postnatal care over in Germany and she also has a child that's enrolled

1:05.7

as a first grader over in a German school. So she speaks to that experience as well and I will

1:11.0

tell you right now it is very very eye opening and makes me want to move to Germany to enroll

1:17.0

my kids in their schools. So I also plan to interview a German citizen because there are just a few

1:24.4

topics that I think they would be able to speak to better because they live over there and are

1:30.4

able to reap the benefits of the maternity leave and things like that. So I plan to do that in

1:36.0

the future. I really love the point of view that she has where she can compare that American culture

1:42.5

with the German culture having experienced both. So I hope you really enjoy this and let me know if

1:48.7

you know of anybody that would love to be on this podcast talking about the country that they

1:54.7

are currently residing in because I would love to have them. Enjoy.

2:04.4
