| 0:00.0 | Goode to me know this is Dr. Taylor Marshall recording from Astorga Spain. We left from |
| 0:06.7 | Leon yesterday on bike and we continue on our Camino de Santiago to the relative of St. |
| 0:12.3 | James. I learned of a great little |
| 0:14.2 | story on the way to a storgi yesterday as we passed through. What was the name of |
| 0:19.4 | the town? I'm pulled up here. |
| 0:28.0 | Hospital there Orbego. And I learned a cool story about a night who was from Leon. This was in the 1400s, 1434 to be exact. His name was |
| 0:40.0 | Suero de Quixez and allegedly he had fallen in love with a woman who did not return his |
| 0:46.8 | love back and so he placed a golden manacle around his neck to show that he was in bondage with his love for this lady. |
| 0:57.0 | And he found himself in the Knights of the Hospitlers settlement there on the Orbigo River and he pledged to |
| 1:08.5 | break 300 Lances in a jousting tournament in 30 days and so he set up a tournament there on the |
| 1:17.3 | giant bridge and I'm guessing the bridge is about 200 meters long it's a big bridge |
| 1:22.1 | and for about 30 days in July of 1434 he challenged |
| 1:29.6 | men and broke 300 lances and he was so injured by the end of it that he decided to continue on and |
| 1:39.3 | finish the Camino. |
| 1:40.4 | I'm not quite sure if it was through the lance through the jousting with the lances or |
| 1:45.0 | through the commino but he eventually removed the golden manacle from his throat |
| 1:52.0 | and declared himself free of this unrequited love, this love that the woman didn't respond to him. |
| 1:59.3 | And so that's the story of the Leonese light, Suero de Kignones. |
| 2:05.0 | I was told also he's mentioned by Don Quixote, |
| 2:09.4 | not sure about that, but an interesting story |
| 2:12.4 | and what was great is once a year this town, which is, I was told less than 2,000 people, |
| 2:19.2 | holds a kind of like a Renaissance festival or a medieval times festival where they have jousting. |
