Despite living in one of the most affluent and safe times in human history, a lot of Ameicans are miserable. Jim Rubens wanted to find out why. In his book Oversuccess, Jim Rubens makes the case that it's our obsession with fame and money is the underlying cause of our American malaise. 0:18.5	So a survey came out a few years ago that said that one in three American adults are
0:21.7	pervasively dissatisfied with their lives.
0:24.7	Researchers also shown that if you're born after 1970, you're seven times more likely to
0:29.5	have depression than those who were born before 1970.
0:33.2	One in four of Americans have some sort of addiction, whether substance or behavior,
0:37.8	or drowning in record, personal, and public debt.
0:41.2	And the crazy thing is we live in one of the most effluent times in our country's history,
0:45.6	safest periods in our country's history.
0:47.3	So I mean, everything is awesome, but everyone, a lot of people are feeling really miserable.

0:53.2	Well our guest today wrote a book and we wanted to find out the answer to that.
0:56.6	His name is Jim Rubens.
0:58.0	He is a New Hampshire politician as well as business man.
1:01.0	And his book is called Over Success healing the American obsession with wealth, fame,
1:05.4	power, and perfection.
1:07.0	And in this book, Mr. Ruben makes the argument that the reason why everyone is so miserable
1:10.5	is that we're pursuing material success at all costs.
1:15.1	It's the thing we put up before anything else, as well as fame and notoriety.
1:19.5	And he makes the case that's making us miserable.
