Hi guys welcome back to the screenwriting life I'm Meg Lafour.

And I'm L'Orian McKenna and today we're going to be discussing a topic that we've often alluded to on the show but only briefly discussed scaffolding.

Which is just my goofy term. There's no dictionary reference to this or people in the business don't talk about it, but I thought of this term when I was talking to a friend who she was kind of looking forward and in the next five years or so she was

going to retire and we just started talking about well what do you want to do in your

retirement and she was like what and I was like well you only have five years so you got to start

scaffolding to retirement you don't want to retire and then wake up the next day and

be like what am I doing who am I what's my purpose and it was great because she was like, well I actually think I want to act. I want to go back to acting and I was like great. So you have five years to start taking classes and meet your community and scaffold so the day you retire, you're an actor, like you're moving into something else.

So it was just a concept that I think applies to both the business side of this of this job and

scaffolding to your goals as well as really it also applies to the actual work of writing.

So that's what we're going to talk about today. But before we dive in,

we're going to talk about our week or what we like to call Adventures in Screenwriting.

Lorian, how was your week?

I think it was good.

I am a bit frantic right now.

Speaking of scaffolding,

is that I am struggling like every day to be organized like I'm I feel like I have so many things going on like little bits of things in all areas of my life that I can't really sink into a day, right?

Everything is like, oh, I have a meeting at two,

I better get ready for that.

Oh, and then I have a thing at four,

I better get ready for that between,

when I end the meeting and that I'm not,

I don't have enough space to like build anything I just feel like I'm hopping from one
