Life was never the same for the Anderson family after 3-year-old Jimmy was diagnosed with

leukemia in January 1972. His parents, Anne, and Charles Anderson

initially thought it was just a severe cold, like everyone else

in the household had dealt with in recent weeks. But Jimmy's symptoms

never went away. He remained pale for two weeks, and a blood test

revealed that his white blood cell count was half of what it should have been.

As expected, the cancer treatment was intense and had a disruptive effect on Jimmy's youth as the years passed.

Of course, the chemo made his hair fall out, and unsurprisingly all the time missed from school affected his cognitive development as well.
