Summary

Julie Albright doesn’t want much for her tenth birthday. All she’s really asking for is $1,000 to save a pair of national treasures—what could go wrong? Book four finds Julie fighting for a new cause after a chance encounter with a hurt animal. This time, Julie wants to see eagles fly again. We discuss her latest campaign, Earth Day, and news on the 2024 Girl of the Year.

So, Allison, I'm coming to you today. We're approaching election season with a real, real plea to our

0:07.2

listeners, like, and to you. Have you called your congressman, your senator about arguably one of

0:14.4

the great issues of our time? Oh, no. No, no, tell me more. Panda diplomacy. This is a matter

0:20.8

or near and dear to my heart. It involves Tiantian, Meizang, Zhao, Chi, Ji. Those are just the pandas

0:30.0

at the Washington National Zoo. But, you know, all of our pandas are being deported back to China,

0:36.4

like China is requesting them back. And I'm just very concerned, like, how do we move forward

0:41.2

as a nation with no pandas? Honestly, I see a really beautiful future for them as X-pads. I want

0:48.0

to believe that they'll, you know, watch American TV shows. They'll stay connected through. Excuse me.

0:55.1

You know, D-fonged Facebook accounts. I don't know. I think this could be really positive.

0:59.9

No. Okay, maybe that I'm just a constituency of one, but I'm upset. And like, if only Julie was here.

1:06.6

If Julie was here, this would go differently for sure. It would go differently. And as Mariah might

1:11.1

say, like, a hero comes along. Like, Julie, if you're out there, help me.

1:25.2

Welcome everyone to Dolls of Our Lives. This is the podcast where we're reliving the American Girl

1:30.1

series book by book. I'm Mary. I'm still Allison. And I'm still not the girl of the year.

1:35.8

I mean, not yet. I mean, I took that candidacy, you know, once again, we've been passed over. And

1:42.9

how do you feel about that? You know, I get a catalog. It says, you know, to our dearest

1:48.1

harrick's family, I flipped to the front. And I see a beautiful photo, right? A wonderful spread

1:54.5

by five pens in a cocktail. Sydney Rose Paulson. Excellent. Shout out. Once again, though, I don't see,

2:01.2

you know, a portrait of me. I don't see myself as girl of the year.

2:05.8

You know, I mean, don't stop believing as I've said to myself about the pandas being removed,

2:12.1

which I am genuinely upset about. And, you know, I don't even have a catalog. Not to come

2:19.1

on to this episode at a 10, but I don't even have a catalog. So I don't know what to do with that.
