As I edited this episode, I kept shaking my head at how we make the decision to quit drinking so much harder than it needs to be,

how we fight to justify our reasons for doing it. We defend this thing that keeps making us miserable and we make excuses for why we need to

That's one of the weird mysteries behind addiction and for me it was also one of the hardest parts just

deciding to quit after going back and forth and back and forth for so long on

whether or not I even wanted to try sobriety. It's like I was window shopping for a decade, standing

outside and staring at a dress on display, picking it apart, wondering what it felt like,

but assuming it might not fit, analyzing the stitching on the hem,

whether the structure on the zipper was going to work for me, without ever just walking into the store

and trying on the damn dress to find out.
