Welcome to the rush hour. Your daily dose of pop culture for your rush hour ride. Buckle up and

0:07.3

enjoy the drive with your host, stand-up comedian Dave Neal. All right, ladies and gentlemen,

0:13.4

on the rush hour podcast, we are chatting today with a legend in the world of podcast. He's the

0:18.7

creator of the Game of Roses podcast and the viral hit The Necessary

0:22.7

Conversations podcast along with the cult classic movie. He wrote the incredible Bert Wonderstone.

0:28.1

It's Chad Colchin. How are you? Doing good, man. How are you doing? You know, I was just getting

0:32.2

barbecue with a magician friend of mine. And I had to tell him, you know, my wife was in Bert Wanderstone, and the guy I'm interviewing wrote Bert Wunderstone, the cult classic movie. And he was, I mean, I felt like I was famous that I knew. Well, you're the only person in the world who feel that way or feels that way. Yeah, my buddy was like, so was Chad, is he like a magician?

0:54.8

Is that why he wrote it? I was like, honestly, I wouldn't be surprised, but I don't think so. I, you know, I dabble in cardistry, but I'm not a magician. No, I'm just fascinated by it. It's one of the only art forms, I mean, maybe the only one, right, that's based on like complete deception and the audience

1:12.1

is aware of that and paying to be deceived. It's fascinating to me. It's actually interesting

1:17.7

to see your curiosity in a playoff in different ways because you've got this curiosity,

1:22.6

obviously with The Bachelor and the theater, the theater arts that goes along with it, the sort of standards

1:29.0

of what the show is and how it's kind of existed throughout, you know, culture in the last 20 or so

1:35.1

years. And also your curiosity as you interview your parents from a different political

1:40.6

ideology. And I want you to know, I told you this literally when I watched your first

1:45.9

episode. I was like, this show is amazing. And now the internet agrees. You've got hundreds and

1:50.5

hundreds of thousands of followers on social media. So what's the sort of reaction been this year

1:55.8

for the necessary conversation to explode in the way that it has? It's been interesting.

2:00.3

You know, I, we've been doing that show for three years now. And my mom, I gave her complete control of all the social media for the first like two and a half years. And then I was doing another podcast called Dudesy. That ended last year. And I was like, let me take the effort that I was putting into that and put it into necessary conversation and take over the social media and start cutting the clips and posting the clips. And I did that in March. And the first week that I did it, we had a couple of videos hit a million views on TikTok and Instagram reels and stuff. So it was pretty quick after I took it over. And it's been like a, you know, slowly building since then.

2:34.8

But it's interesting to see my mom has been like recognized in the bank and stuff like that,

2:39.7

you know, and she, you know, fains that she doesn't like it, but I know she does.

2:44.5

So that's been kind of fun.

2:46.7

And you don't think about that side of things where there is, I mean, have you ever done anything that has had this amount of traction before?
