Two of the most insidious issues resulting from growing up in an alcoholic or dysfunctional family are the feelings of shame and isolation. These feelings often keep us stuck in our pain and block us from getting the help we need in adulthood. We want to heal, but we want to do it alone.
Unfortunately it doesn’t work that way. Healing happens in community and through safe relationships - not in isolation. Being part of a community provides us with a sense of belonging, connection and support that is necessary to the healing process. Here’s why…
1. Emotional support: Being part of a community provides a safe space to share your feelings, experiences, and challenges with people who understand and empathize with what you are going through.
2. Reduced isolation: By being part of a community, you have the opportunity to connect with others, reducing feelings of isolation and promoting a sense of social connectedness.
3. Shared knowledge and resources: Being part of a community can also provide access to shared knowledge and resources that can be helpful in the healing process.
4. Increased motivation: Being part of a community can increase motivation to heal and make positive changes. Seeing others who have gone through similar experiences and come out stronger on the other side can be inspiring and encouraging, motivating individuals to continue on their own healing journey.
